QuickStart Roller Skating Session

Learn to roller skate – A fast-paced, beginner-friendly class that helps participants quickly learn the basics of roller skating.  This class is repeated each week (until we wrap up at this location Aug 25th)

One-Hour Drop-In (or pre-register) Roller Skating Class

Introduction (5 minutes)

  • Welcome and Warm-up: Brief introduction, safety tips, and warm-up exercises (stretching and balance exercises).

Basics (10 minutes)

  • Basic Stance and Balance: Teaching proper posture, bending knees, and staying balanced.
  • Forward Skating: Simple push and glide techniques using “the stride” and “the bubble”

Essential Skills (15 minutes)

  • Stopping Techniques: Plow stop and T-stop.
  • Turning and Maneuvering: Basic turns and how to navigate around obstacles.

Skill Practice (15 minutes)

  • Backward Skating: Introduction to backward movement for those who are ready. 

Fun Drills and Free Skate (10 minutes)

  • Free Skate: Time for participants to practice on their own with guidance available.

Cool Down (5 minutes)

  • Cool Down and Stretching: Ending with stretching exercises and cool-down.

This structure ensures that participants of all skill levels get a comprehensive experience in just one hour, making it enjoyable and educational for everyone who drops in.

Location: Retro Rollers Inc, 225-2 The Boardwalk (between Marshalls and Sport Chek)

Age Requirement: 14+

Offered Weekly, Wednesdays from 6-7pm (select the date you are available in the drop down menu)

Rentals are available at check out – please select your ticket with rentals or without rentals

 

  • Safety gear such as helmets, wrist guards, knee and elbow pads are strongly recommended, and not available for rent.  All participants that wear gear to this class feel more confident to try new movements.
  • Rental Skates are available at a cost of $5 per rental.
  • Participants are encouraged to bring their own full water bottle for hydration.  We will take breaks for a drink! Definitely bring a full water bottle.  There is a refrigerated water fountain also available to refill.
  • Always wear comfortable clothing that is flexible and breathable.
  • This is not a class meant for inlines or roller blades. Rentals are available.
